About
Originally trained as an Architect, Stuart turned to art during the 2019 lockdown. During this period, he wanted to pursue his love and lifetime passion for the visual arts and the exploration of his work through the visual media of painting.
Having grown up in a city by the sea and during his studies in Brighton, he became interested in the natural landscape. Now based at his Millbay studio in Plymouth, his work employs a range of mediums from pencil, charcoal, watercolour, and acrylics to oils on canvas. The main focus and interest of his work are based on our interaction with landscape and seascapes. His work encourages you to engage with these spaces as he tries to capture a place in a way a camera can not. His work embodies memory, light, space, and time.
Equally, his still-life work often examines the deeper meaning and beauty behind everyday objects and how these can take on a hidden or surreal narrative.
